So the first of the new style Targa rallies is almost here. Targa’s (nee Gymkhana’s) are small airfield based events where there are short driving tests, which are like scaled down versions of stages but with a reduced average speed.
Here you can see work in progress on the gearbox swap.
The last minute prep of a gearbox change was completed, along with fitting new front discs and pads, and removing some weight from the bonnet. Late Sunday afternoon was used as a chance to shakedown the car and bed in the new discs and pads. This all went fine and the new gearbox allows you to more easily keep the engine revving away 🙂
The Targa has a very full entry list, with lots of very quick crews in our class (MA; Masters in up to 1400cc) so it was suprising to see that the organisers had seeded us at 4th overall and 3rd in class. If we manage to stay near that then we will be having a very good day !
See here for the full entry list : http://chelmsfordmc.co.uk/Entry/WoodbridgeTarga13/EntryList.php
The event is running at MoD Woodbridge near Ipswich, however the weather could play a part in the proceddings with rain forcast all day on the Saturday and continuing through past 9am on the day of the event. So grip could well be at a premium during the early stages of the event. Lets hope the rains clears off early!

Finaly I hope I wouldnt be needing to use these during the event, our new DTM style (cue narrower) mirrors. Hopefully these will help reduce the number of times i hit the mirrors…… 😉
