Rallying through 2014

Well 2014 has been another busy year, with Muriel developing yet further.

Events in 2014

Chelmsford MC – MGJ Brands Hatch Winter Stages – Nissan Micra, Nav: Lizzie Pope – 39th overall and 2nd in class

A great way to start the year, rallying on my birthday! A pleasing result on a slippery event. Drifting on ice flat in 4th going down Paddock Hill is interesting…..

Bath MC – Bath Festival Rally – Nissan Micra, Nav: Lizzie Pope – 27th overall and 16th in class

Rubbish result caused by me beaching the car on a LWR, luckily the push from Lizzie got us going again but we had lost too much time by then. Great event, with a good thrash through the lanes.

TRS Targa Rally – Nissan Micra, Nav : Suze Endean – 5th overall and 1st in class

TRS Targa Rally – Nissan Micra, Driver : Suze Endean – 13th overall and 4th in class

Tyre issues robbed Suze of a better result, a mixed day from memory but a good result.

Cheltenham MC Down Ampney Stage Rally – Nissan Micra, Driver : Suze Endean – 36th overall and 3rd in class

A new venue for both of us and a great days rallying with a great result in class considering we were up against lots of ‘locals’

WSMC Debden Autotest – Nissan Micra – 8th overall and 2nd in class

Same event as last years but good fun never the less, beaten once again by John in that very rapid (if tatty looking) Mini.

WSMC Debden Targa Rally 2014 – Nissan Micra, Nav : Suze Endean – 4th overall, 1st in class and 1st FWD.

WSMC Debden Targa Rally 2014 – Nissan Micra, Driver : Suze Endean – 9th overall, 2nd in class.

Great fun on the gravel once again, managed to spin a few times trying a bit too hard, pleasing result too!

7Oaks MC – North Weald Autosolo – Nissan Micra – 12th overall & 1st in class.

Once again a throughly wet event, pleased to take the class win, though a bit off the main pace setters.

Chelmsford MC – Woodbridge Stages – F1000 Nissan Micra, Driver: Rob Kennedy – 39th overall and 6th in class

A last minute entry with an ex junior F1000 driver, a very committed if not that fast day out. Enjoyed navving and competing without the pressure of car prep before or during the event.

Falcon MC – Guy Fawkes Car Trial – MGZR (Road Car), Passenger: Suze Endean – 43rd overall and 2nd in class

First car trial for a good few years which showed at times, as one of only two road cars on the event we were never going to do well…. Got some handy clubmans point though….

FIA / IMS / MSA – Wales Rally GB National Rally – Nissan Micra, Nav : Suze Endean – 50th overall (94 entries), 5th in class (9 in class) and 1st Micra (3 Micra’s)

You can read more about this event on my blog, but as ever this event was epic. A lot tougher than last year, doing two stages with a snapped wishbone was interesting and cost us time as did getting stuck behind Swanny, though this did get on TV over Christmas.

All in all a good years rallying, some pleasing results. The ‘diff’ in the Micra really does improve how well she goes and makes it even more fun to drive. Hopefully I will have done enough to secure the Chelmford MC clubmans (all rounders championship) once again.

In other notes….

Being on the MSA Rallies Committee has opened up a new side to motrsport, which will increase in 2015 when I will be chairman of the MSA AutoX & RallyX committee and also sit on the MSA Speed committee.

Other motorsport events has seen highlights like Rally Barbados, which was a great experience, the locals are sooo mad for rallying. A few good days out like Goodwood FoS and Revival and the Cholmondeley pageant of power. We ‘celebrated’ our 5th wedding anniversary by marshalling the new Bournemouth Rally, a great event Graham and team. Taking part in the WRGB Media day was good fun, and having a photo shoot with WRC stars was very cool. Finishing off the year marshalling on the Preston.

Finally one of the best rallying moments of 2014 has to be the start of WRGB chatting away with Meeke and others about all sorts of rallying stuff all in front of a crowd of 1000’s!

Thanks as ever to all organisers and marshals for your hard work, especially those who came out to marshal for me at Brands in the summer.
